After a busy final day at Lance and Laura’s, we headed off into the sunset in the late afternoon. The day started with a failed attempt to paddle from Long Lake through the thoroughfare into Mud Lake then on through back to Cross Lake. The wind had come up strongly from the night before and when PJ and I launched from the boat ramp in Sinclair, the weather wasn’t looking promising. The initial start through the narrow thoroughfare was decent as it was protected from the wind. But when we emerged onto Mud lake the paddling was furious and the progress was basically non-existent. We battled for about 20 minutes but only covered maybe a half mile. Knowing when it was time to quit, we gave up and let the wind rush us home.

Thought about sneaking in a nap, but Lance wasn’t having it. We climbed onto the ATVs and blasted off down the trails back over to Martin’s store then along the lakefront to the turn off up the hill to the ATV clubs little hideaway. Nice little excursion and exciting to be out kicking up some dust.

Washed the RV and prepared everything for an escape. It was down to us two, Lance and Laura, Dianne and Doug, the prodigal cousin from Tennessee. We piled into the van and Laura drove us towards Eagle Lake where we headed over to Fish Tail falls. The six of us crossed the landing strip of the local airport then hiked through the forest up to the rushing water. A beautiful day for a hike. Cool and overcast. A bit smoggy really, from large fires burning up across the border. Can’t trust those Canadians.

Back at the camp, we all said our goodbyes then we rolled out and pointed the rig south. Rolled on until nearly dark when we pulled into a clean little campground along the highway and settled in for the night.
