Said farewell to my sweet little campsite at Alum Creek State Park and hit the road south to Lexington, KY. Easy start taking the back road to the 71 then sliding through Columbus for long hours of cruise control driving until reaching Cincinnati. I tried a few RV centers along the way, but was still unable to find the part I’m looking for.

Traffic got a bit thick in Cincinnati but wasn’t too bad until crossing the Kentucky border. The commute slowed up for a while but wasn’t too bad soon flowing easily down the pike to Joe’s house in Lexington.

Great to see Joe again! It’s been a number of years. Friends for over 40 years. He abandoned us Californians for Kentucky a coon’s age ago but still hasn’t forgotten us members of the old beach crew from the 80s. Surfing Oceanside, cruising the boardwalk and surf trips to Mexico. We sat in the comfortable summer air and caught up on our lives. Got to make friends with his dog Maisie and see the updates to the house.

Joe had traded out some work with the local butcher for a quarter of a beef. We barbecued up some fresh steaks and paired them with wax beans from the farmer’s market and sliced fresh tomatoes from his garden. A gourmet feast. Must have known I was coming.

After eating, we drove into Lexington center for a men’s meeting on the far side of town. Good to meet some of Joe’s bros and get out to see the city. Grabbed some gelato downtown and brought it home to share with Lisa. She arrived home and the three of us sat talking until it was time to call it a night thanks for the amazing hospitality.

Meanwhile….back in RI
Somebody finally made it to Tommy’s world famous clam shack for an order of their giant fish and chips. I’m sooo jealous!

I can’t believe you went through a tunnel in the city. Meema doesn’t ever ever do tunnels. Your friends treated you well with the delicious dinner. So happy you got to visit Joe and go to a meeting with him. Loved the connection you have with animals. Who was the blond showing off fish and chips from my Tommy’s? Have fun, Mike. Meema
