Kentucky Bluewater

After straightening a few things in the RV, I sat down for an excellent breakfast with Joe and Lisa. Took advantage of Joe’s garage and fixed up a couple of small wooden boxes that had broken earlier. Lisa headed off for work then Joe and I went on a fruitless canvas of local RV stores looking for my rare and seemingly hard to find Calder connector. We gave up after several stops and went for a grocery shop at Kroger to refill the pantry in the RV.

Driving around Lexington

Loaded the groceries in the RV and headed off to Laurel Lake Camping “Resort”. Arrived around 3:00 and got the site all set up. Joe and his canine sidekick, Maisie, pulled up around 4:00. We retrieved his pontoon boat from the boat storage place and went over to Craig’s Creek Lake (my second lake named after a creek this week). Got the boat launched and cruised around the beautiful forested lake. Clean, clear water and lots of coves and crannies to explore.

We dropped anchor in a small bay and Joe busted out the box of fried chicken he picked up from his favorite little joint back in Lexington. It went well with a cool container of fresh sliced watermelon. We all had our fill, even little Maisie. I had gotten in a swim to cool down my body temperature and now it was Maisie’s turn. She did a lap around the boat and then climbed back aboard on the makeshift ramp Joe had stitched together. Kind of like walking the plank in reverse.

Joe relaxed on his floatie, I unfolded a lounge chair to bask in the sun and Maisie curled up on a little quilt on the sofa. A lazy, perfect weather afternoon on a sprawling, sparkling lake in Kentucky. Life is good. Today is my dad’s birthday. Couldn’t help but think how much he would have enjoyed an afternoon like this on an easy rolling pontoon surrounded by pines.

The sun was getting low, so we did everything in reverse: trailering the boat and dropping it back in its comfortable garage. Then it was over to camp for a fire, some guitar playing and finishing off the chicken and melon. Thanks Joe for a wonderful visit to the bluegrass state. My best to you and Lisa (& Maisie), consummate hosts. See you down the road.
