Woke up this morning and attended a zoom meeting while outside my window, my European neighbors were working on their balancing skills with a tightrope.

After having a bite to eat, I set off to ride my bike down to the Tasayan Ruins. I set Google maps to bike mode and the trip started off on a service road (complete with a sign saying official vehicles only). Although mostly gravel, it wasn’t too bad in the beginning. But after a couple of miles the road deteriorated and proved a little too rough for poor Bluey being only a hybrid bike. More a road for the Procaliber. My camera and gear in the grocery basket were dancing around vigorously the whole time.

Knowing that discretion is the better part of valor, we switched plans and backtracked out to the asphalt and raced down the narrow park thoroughfare hugging the non existent shoulder. All steep downhill. Thought I’d enjoy the ride out as much as possible.

Stopped at Lujan Point and checked out the overlook there. Magnificent canyon views. Not so many tourists around today, but still plenty of visitors. A raven was taking advantage of the bugs splattered on the front of a parked car as I took off down to the ruins.

The little museum was closed but there were enough placards to get the history of the area. Not much left of the village here. Took a sip off my bottle and braced myself for the 1000 feet of elevation I was going to have to make up in 4 miles going home. 6500 feet back up to 7500 feet.

Just kept putting one pedal in front of the other and not too much later I was back at the peak and treated myself to an overpriced ice cream sandwich from the gas station.

A lazy afternoon holding down my rocking chair in front of the RV reading my book. Late in the day I went for a hike out to the rim near the campground. The immensity of the canyon never ceases to boggle the mind.

Rode over to the watchtower for sunset. A native gentleman was playing the flute in the plaza for the visitors at the park.
Another awesome canyon sunset. Stood around listening to the variety of languages being spoken around me. Took pictures for a few people. Had a conversation with a German family at the end of an eight week trip. We waited for the blood moon to arise but tonight the clouds kept it hidden.
