All Five Great Lakes!

For the first time in a while, I got up with an alarm clock this morning. We wanted to get over to Lake Erie before the wind came up. We drove about 35 minutes down the length of the Niagara River to the Woodlawn State Park in Buffalo. Actually, Lackawanna but it all seems the same to me. Our park pass from the campground got us in for no charge.

We carried the boards along the blue carpet to the waters edge. Nice and sandy entry for the launch. Erie makes the fifth and final Great Lake for us to paddle, a pentfecta, if you will. The lake was glassy and seemed fairly clean. We were the only people to get into the large body of water on this sultry summer’s morn so I had my doubts on water quality. We did about a 3 mile loop then celebrated by heading over to Niagara Falls.

Once again, our camp pass got us into the falls for free and we got parking about as close as you can get. A moderate crowd on a Thursday morning. We walked to the observation areas and lined up with the diverse group of people from around the world and took some pictures and were awed by the power of the water flowing over the lip of the gorge. We’d done the boat thing and going up into the “maid” tower last trip, so we’re fine just strolling the park area.

From there, we made our way to Lewiston and ordered up some lunch at the Silo overlooking the river. Decent grub from an unhappy young lady. Nice views and a relaxing afternoon in upstate New York.

Grabbed a few groceries and beelined it back to camp for afternoon naps and lighting up a fire afterwards to cook up the remainder of our hot dogs. A road day tomorrow, so lots of packing and organizing to get ready for the next step.
