There was still an occasional drop or two of rain when I climbed out of bed a little after seven. There was a steady wind blowing diagonally across the lake but it seemed like it might be okay to travel the mile or so to the underpass at the causeway and paddle over to the other larger half of the lake. About 1/2 hour into it, the wind was getting stronger and the water’s surface was getting choppier and more difficult to handle.

I made the executive decision to cut my losses, turn left and battle into the wind across the lake to where the small wooded island sits, then have a leisurely return hiding from the wind in the series of little coves and inlets that make up the shore along the campground side. Nice cruising paddle back trying to sneak up on the uneasy herons and egrets that were fishing along the banks.

Close to five miles later, I was back at camp enjoying a bowl of granola and making campground reservations for down the road. I realized that the T-shirt I picked out yesterday from the bike shop wasn’t the one with the chain ring on it that I’d thought it was. I unlocked the bike and pumped out a quick three miles down to Lost in the Woods bike shop and traded it out for the right one. Grabbed a couple of gallons of drinking water at the bait shop then kicked into gear for the return trip.

Lots of lounging, reading and researching the upcoming drive. Played some guitar, got bitten by some mosquitoes then as the sun was moving low in the sky, I went for a casual pedal around the campground. The park’s about a mile long. I went to the swim beach at the far side and walked out on the artificially supplied sand. I guess it was windy! There were 14 sailboats out on the lake racing back and forth. Must be some type of club. Watched awhile until some raindrops started to fall, then it was time to head home for dinner.

Meanwhile…..back in RI
