Into Tennessee

After a poor night’s sleep, I still managed to get up early and close down the camp. Pulled away from my late partying neighbors and drove the few miles down to the spillway beach and launched the paddle board onto the clear waters of Craig’s creek lake. I just kept following the shore, keeping it to my right.

Camping on your houseboat

There was a bit of wind early and the sky was overcast providing the occasional raindrop when least expected. Checked out some coves where the treetops were still poking out at the surface of the lake. No boats allowed in the spooky looking dead treetop forest! I covered six and a half miles in a little over two hours. A lot of work for a sleepless guy.

There’s Wilson waiting patiently in the parking lot

Loaded the board and turned my nose towards Nashville, TN. A couple of hours into the ride, I was sure I was going to fall asleep at the wheel. I pulled off the road and crawled back to the bed and took a 20 minute nap. Really revitalized me. Continued on, stopping for a Chic-fil-A before braving the traffic through Nashville until I rolled up at my cousin’s doorstep in Franklin.

A bit of Tennessee rain & fog

Her husband Jerry was there to greet me and we sat for awhile in the backyard scrutinizing his deck project and meeting his hyper lab Rigby who was happy to meet a new stranger to give him a pet. Met their other pup, Rufus, and I relaxed while Jerry got busy prepping some pollo asada for dinner. Andrea returned from work and we caught up on the latest family news and enjoyed a gourmet Tenn Mex dinner.

Thanks for the hospitality!

  1. Good friends and family plus dogs make wonderful days. Great paddle map makes it easy for me to see exactly where you went. Stay safe and well. Meema xoxo
